The Black, Indigenous & Workers of Colour Conference is a bilingual event for members who self-identify to gain skills and build knowledge. The conference will be held at the Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario. We look forward to welcoming you there!

The conference begins at 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2023 and ends at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2023.

Conference delegates will have the opportunity to hear about some of the tremendous work being done within our union and our communities. Through participation in skills-building workshops and conversations hosted by past, present and future activists and leaders, delegates will gain knowledge and build relationships they can bring back to their local union and to advocate for equity.

In the lead-up to the conference, members are also encouraged to register for the week long Black, Indigenous and Workers of Colour Leadership Program (week 1) which will run September 10 – 15, 2023. This program is for members who identify and have lived their life tackling oppression in their day-to-day. It’s an incredible opportunity for local unions to build the strengths and skills of members whose voices and leadership are desperately needed if we want to respond to today’s challenges. This program is intended to build the skills, knowledge and confidence of BIWOC members to increase their activism and take up positions of leadership within the union.

Every local union is encouraged to send their full complement of delegates. Our union’s commitment to equality can only be met with the total participation and involvement of our leadership and activists. Please encourage your BIWOC activists, local union leadership, human rights, women and equity representatives/activists to participate in this conference.
